Event 15 (Day 2): Final Break/Updated Counts

Players are going on their final (15) minute break, and will return to finish the final four levels of the night.  When the players remaining at break return to play, they will be posting blinds of 300/600/75. Here are some updated chip counts heading to break:

Ramesha Ugrappa - 62,000
Ryan McKnight - 58,000
Nicholas Verderamo - 56,000
Matteo Menna - 56,000
Chrstian Harder - 50,000
Chad Power - 44,000
Josef Teshome - 39,000
James Peters - 35,000
Andrew Franklin - 32,000

Event 15 (Day 1B): Peters Predicts A King

Level 8 (Blinds 250/500/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 67
Day 1B Players Remaining: 30
Chip Average: 30,000

After a limp from Ravi Repole and Roy Adler, James Peters would bump it up from the button to 1,800.  Repole would make the call and with the action back to Adler, he would three-bet to 7,000.  Peters would four-bet to 20,000 (effectively enough to put it Adler), Repole would fold behind, and Adler would put in the rest of his chips:

Peters: K J♦          Adler: J♠ J♣

Runout: 8 K♠ 5♠ 4♣ K

Peters would call for a king just as the dealer was ready to fan out the flop, and James would get his wish.  Adler would be looking for a one-outer on the turn or river to steal the hand away, but he would brick out and be eliminated from Day 1B play.  With that pot Peters would chip up to 40,000, over (80) big blinds at the moment.

Event 15 (Day 1B): Cash Games Are Great Too

Level 7 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 67

Registration is now closed for this flight, but that does not mean that players don't have other options.   Professional poker player Jeff Gross is a Baltimore native, and one of the top players in the world.  Jeff has over $2,087,000 in career tournament earnings, including two final tables and four cashes during this years WSOP.  One of the greatest things about poker that separates it from other competitive outlets is that anyone can sit down with some of the best.

Gross just Tweeted that he was back in Baltimore and playing 2/2 PLO here at Live! with friends at the moment.  It has not yet been confirmed whether Gross will be here or not for the $2,200 Live! Summer Series Of Poker.

Event 15 (Day 1B): Steinhorn Straights On Turn

Level 6 (Blinds 150/300/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 64

The action at Table 30 would be picked up on the turn, as Philip Tomaselli check raised Jason Steinhorn to 8,000 on a board of J♣ 2♣ 10 K♣.  Steinhorn would return by announcing himself all-in, and Tomaselli would begrudgingly make the call for a few thousand more.  Jason would turn over A Q♣, having Philip's Q 9 drawing to a chop at best.  They both would turn the straight, and Steinhorn would river a queen high flush for good measure.  Jason would chip up to over 33,000 with that pot, while Philip would be left short with only (10) minutes remaining in registration.

Event 15 (Day 1B): Last Level For Re-Entry

Level 6 (Blinds 150/300/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 64

This is the last level for entry/re-entry into this Day 1B flight, with less than (30) minutes currently on the clock.  Players will still have opportunities to bag chips for Day 2, with two more flights tomorrow (Day 1C at 12:15pm and Day 1D at 7:15pm), and one flight on Wednesday (Day 1E at 12:15pm).

Here are some updated counts from the end of Level 5:

Ramesha Ugrappa - 54,000
Tim Little - 49,000
Blake Mason - 41,000
James Peters - 38,000
Matteo Menna - 35,000
Christian Harder - 30,000
Chad Power - 23,000

Event 15 (Day 1B): Harder Doubles

Level 5 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 59

After losing a few small pots, Christian Harder's stack was down to 12,000.  He would get his remaining chips in on a flop of 2♠ 4♣ 9 holding K♠ K♣ against the 7♠ 7of Robert Meyer.  Meyer would not find either of his two outs on the turn or river, and Christian would double up to just over 25,000.

Another notable just entered the field late, as Kyle Bowker (Walton, NY) brings his 94 career cashes and $2,900,000 tournament earnings to the felt.

Event 15 (Day 1B): Event 14 Reunion

Level 5 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 59

There are three players at Table 29 that have a little history which each other recently, as the all went deep in yesterday's Event 14 Day 2.  Andrew Franklin was the only one of the three not to cash in the event, as he took a bad beat on the bubble.  Both James Peters and Tim Little min-cashed in the event for $2,077, and both are off to solid starts this evening:

Tim Little - 45,000
James Peters - 44,000
Andrew Franklin - 20,000

Event 15 (Day 1B): First Break

Players are going on their first (15) minute break of the day, and they will return to Level 5 and blinds of 100/200/25.  Those interested in getting into the Day 1B flight (or) re-entering have two levels of play after break to do so.

Event 15 (Day 1B): Tough Table Draw

Level 4 (Blinds 100/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 59

Christian Harder (Annapolis, MD)
With a list of alternates growing, tournament supervisors opened a new table for those waiting.  A few players were grabbed from other active tables so it didn't have to be short, and Table 32 would get the cards in the air.

One of the new players to the field (and Table 32) is Christian Harder (Annapolis, MD).  Harder is coming off Day 2 of Event 14 yesterday, when he ran an over pair into a set to bust, only a handful of spots short of the money.

Of his $2,960,000 in career tournament earnings, and 74 total lifetime cashes, Harder is still looking for his first cash at Maryland Live!.

Event 15 (Day 1B): Updated Chip Counts

Level 4 (Blinds 100/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 51

Level 4 started moments ago with the blinds going up to 100/200, with a new table in the field about to open.  Here are some updated chip counts from the end of Level 3:

James Peters - 42,000
Tim Little - 36,000
Ramesha Ugrappa - 35,000
John Robinson - 25,000
Wesley Wyvill - 18,000
Matteo Menna - 15,000
Andrew Franklin - 11,000

Event 15 (Day 1B): Level Up

Level 3 (Blinds 75/150)
Total Day 1B Entries: 45

Chad Power (Pittsburgh, PA)
Players are now posting blinds of 75/150 in Level 3, with some new additions taking their seats in the field.  Chad Power (Pittsburgh, PA) is one of the most recent players to join the field, a professional player who is making his second appearance during a Live! Poker Room series.  Power was here during the Live! Poker Classic and also joined the Poker Night In America cash game that was filmed at the end of that series.  It has not yet been determined if he will be playing in the upcoming session (July 29-30th), but regardless he can say he booked a win on live television after winning $10,000 in April.

Jon Cantor
James Peters
Tim Little
Ryan McKnight
Wayne Griffin
Matteo Menna
Philip Rinaldi
Salah Sood
Dominic Colonna

Event 15 (Day 1B): Second Flight Underway

Level 1 (Blinds 25/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 40

The rules announcement has been made for the second time today, this time by tournament director Brent Philbin.  The cards are in the air once again, and players are once again trying to put themselves in good position to bag chips for Day 2.  The structure is the same as earlier, with players sitting down to a 15,000 starting stack and (30) minute levels.  There is another $1,500 bonus for the chip leader of this flight, and we will keep an eye on that as throughout the flight.  A list of notables in the field will be posted once players settle in.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Down To The Last Chip

Level 12 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 24
Chip Average: 64,000

Viet Le (Day 1A Chipleader)
It looked as if Charles Welch pulled off an astonishing feat as he flatted a raise with AA on the button, and watched as two players shoved behind.  His hand would hold up and Welch would end the flight with 150,200.

Viet Le was right around that number, and until his count could be verified, is was too close to call.  Le's final count would be 151,100, besting Charles by just 900 chips.  Viet will collect the $1,500 chip lead bonus for Day 1A, and lead the way into Day 2 at this moment.

The Day 1B flight begins in just (15) minutes, with live coverage of the flight picking up once the cards are in the air.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Final Hands Of Flight

Level 12 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 25
Chip Average: 62,000

Tournament supervisor Brent Philbin has paused the clock with 10:00 showing, and those players still active will have (4) hands left.  Once those hands are finished, players will get their counts verified before bagging for Day 2 on Thursday at 12:15pm.  The official end of Day 1A chip counts will be posted once the bags are all verified.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Bonus Up For Grabs

Level 12 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Day 1A Players: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 31
Chip Average: 53,000

Marc Cohen was a short stack at Table 31, and he would shove all-in pre for 9,400.  Cliff Goldkind would make the call (button), as well as Viet Le (big blind).  The dealer would then fan out a flop of 9 7♠ 3♣ and the two players would check.  After the Q on the turn, Viet would check-call Goldkind's 8,000 bet.  The 10♣ would come on the river and Viet would check once again, with Goldkind betting 15,000.  Le's cards went into the muck very quickly and Cliff turned over K♣ Q♣, good for both the main and side pot.

Viet Le - 110,000
Cliff Goldkind - 98,000

Event 15 (Day 1A): Counts Going Into Final Level

Level 12 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 35
Chip Average: 44,000

Players still active in the Day 1A flight are coming down the homestretch, and Viet Le holds a somewhat comfortable lead with just (30) minutes remaining.  Le goes into the final level with 140,000, with his nearer competitor 25,000 behind:

Viet Le - 140,000
Geoffrey Desobry - 115,000
Demetrios Kappattos - 90,000
Cory Robinson - 83,000
Charles Welch - 80,000
Cliff Goldkind - 70,000
Jeffrey Chang - 60,000
Justin Liberto - 55,000

Event 15 (Day 1A): They Have History

Level 11 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 37

Viet Le and James Sloat have played a handful of sizable pots against each other today, and it would be Viet who would have the last word on this day.  Sloat would shove his remaining 14,000 over an open from Le, and Viet would make the call:

Sloat: K♠ K       Le: A♣ 3♣

Runout: 22♠ 10♣ A A

Sloat's lead would only strengthen after the flop, but everything would change when Viet hit the ace on the turn, leaving James looking for one of the two kings remaining in the deck.  The river would not bring any help, and James would collect his things and leave the table.  Viet holds the chip lead at the moment with 140,000, but the race looks like it should go down to the final hands for the bonus.

Event 15 (Day 1A): One Hour Of Play Remains

Level 11 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 39
Chip Average: 39,000

With the levels transitioning and Level 11 starting moments ago, less than an hour remains in play for this flight.  The field is now down to five active tables, with some notables failing to bag chips including Tim Little and Wayne Griffin.  Justin Liberto (Baltimore, MD) was working with a below average stack for most of the day, but he has chipped up to 50,000 and looking to continue the upward trend.  A list of players in contention for the chip lead bonus will be posted prior to the start of Level 12.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Chang Chips Up

Level 10 (Blinds 400/800/100)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 40
Chip Average: 39,000

Approaching Table 29, the would be a hand on the turn between Jeffrey Chang and Spencer Mensh.  The board would read K 9♣ 5 3, and Chang's 5,800 turn bet had just been raised to 15,800 by Spencer. After some thought, Jeffrey would announce himself all-in and the action would be on Mensh to decide for his tournament life.  Spencer would make the call and the hands would be tabled:

Chang: J 9         Mensh: 5♣ 5♠

Board: K 9♣ 5 3

River: 10

The board would not pair for Spencer, and he would be eliminated from the field, while Jeffrey would chip up to 80,000.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Viet Gets It Back

Level 10 (Blinds 400/800/100)
Total Day 1A Entries: 104
Day 1A Players Remaining: 43
Chip Average: 36,000

Viet Le
Approaching Table 31, there would be a player who asked to remain anonymous all-in for 4,000 pre-flop.  He would get called by Viet Le, James Sloat, and Cliff Goldkind.  The dealer would fan a flop of 4 K♣ 9, and James Sloat would fire out a bet of 6,000. Goldkind would fold and Viet Le would call the bet, as the players then saw the 8♠ on the turn.  Sloat would check this street, while Le would spring into action with a bet of 12,000.

James thought momentarily before check raised all-in (having Le covered), and Viet would stand up an immediately make the call.  Le would table K K♠ and would have both Sloat (K Q♠) and the anonymous player (7♠ 7♣) drawing dead.

Le would collect the pot worth 115,000 and now assume the chip lead with three levels of play remaining.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Who Else But Welch?

Level 9 (Blinds 300/600/75)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 52
Chip Average: 30,000

The field now has its first players to eclipse the 100,000 mark, and it's none other than Charles Welch.  Welch is the only player to bag more than one bonus in Live! Poker Room tournament history, and he's put himself in contention to grab a third.

Welch scored a double elimination right before break, when he flopped a set of sevens on a board of A♣ K♠ 7♣ J♥ A against Ax Kx again K♣ 5♣.  The chips all got in on the turn, and after winning the hand he would be up to 90,000.  Since returning from break he has continued to apply pressure to the rest of the table, and now sits with 110,000.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Final Break/Updated Chip Counts

Level 8 is about to end and players will be going on their final (15) minute break of the night.  They were return to play the final four levels before bagging chips for Day 2 on Thursday (12:15pm).  Those still active will return to Level 9 and blinds of 300/600/75, with an average stack at the moment of 29,000.

Here are some updated counts from the field as players head to break:

Charles Welch - 90,000
James Sloat - 64,000
Mark Gendleman - 61,000
Geoffrey Desobry - 53,000
Michael Drosch - 48,000
Spencer Mensh - 46,000
Antonio Amato - 42,000
Cory Robinson - 42,000
Cliff Goldkind - 34,000

Event 15 (Day 1A): Max Value From Quads

Level 8 (Blinds 250/500/50)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103
Day 1A Players Remaining: 55

James Sloat (Fort Meade, MD)
On a board of 10♣ 6 K 6♣ 9♣, James Sloat would call 5,000 bets from Viet Le on both the flop and the turn.  Once the river 9♣ hit the table, Viet announced a 9,000 bet, with Sloat quickly pushing the remainder of his chips towards the middle.

Le immediately made the call, and as he was tabling his K♣ Q♣, Sloat turned over 6♠ 6.  Viet would send over the extra 7,900 the way of James, and watch as Sloat would stack his new stack of 63,000.

James Sloat - 63,000
Viet Le - 31,000

Event 15 (Day 1A): Already Cut In Half

Joshua Gordon
Philip Rinaldi

Event 15 (Day 1A): Updated Chip Counts

Level 7 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103

Now that registration is closed, players can focus on the task of bagging chips and/or trying to bag the chip lead bonus.  Here are some updated counts from the field:

Demetrios Kappattos - 84,000

Antonio Amato - 63,000
Cliff Goldkind - 47,000
Charles Welch - 41,000

Michael Drosch - 39,000
Justin  Liberto - 30,000

Event 15 (Day 1A): Registration Closed

Level 7 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Day 1A Entries: 103

Registration for this flight is now closed, and here are the final numbers:

Event 15 (Day 1A): Registration Window Closing

Level 6 (Blinds 150/300/35)
Total Day 1A Entries: 98

Players have less than (15) minutes before registration is closed for this flight go Event 15, with one player getting here just in time.  Charles Welch (Baltimore, MD) is looking for his third cash in the series, and he likely has his third chip in bonus in mind as well.  Charles won the bonus during the $3,500 Live! Poker Classic Main Event for $10,000, and followed that up with a $1,000 bonus from one of the starting flights of Event 1:

Event 15 (Day 1A): Doesn't Hurt To Run Good

Level 6 (Blinds 150/300/25)
Total Day 1A Entries: 96

Justin Liberto (Baltimore, MD)
Approaching Table 32, Steve Benkovic would be all-in on a board reading 6 2 8 7.  The action would be on Justin Liberto (Baltimore, MD), and with a 10,000 pot and 7,000 behind, Justin would take a look at the clock and toss in the chips for a call:

Board: 6♣ 2 8 7

Benkovic: 8 9
Liberto: Q 9

River: Q♣

Justin would be in pretty bad shape when the cards were tabled, needing a non diamond queen to win the hand.  The river would bring just that, and Liberto would double to 24,000.

Event 15 (Day 1A): A Little Addition

Level 5 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1A Entries: 94

Coming off a quick turnaround, one of the most recent additions to the field is Tim Little (Cheverly, MD).  Little finished in 11th place of Event 14 last night, after experiencing a roller coaster like day.  Tim went from one of the chip leaders with twenty players left, to actually having to sweat the bubble a little.  The $2,077 cash would be his second for this series, as he shoots for a third in this event.  His table was the first to break today, and he is now seated at Table 40 with the likes of Michael Dorsch, Tiffany Williamson, and Alan Lee.

Event 15 (Day 1A): A Solid Pace

Level 5 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1A Entries: 94

Players are once again seated and the action has resumed for Event 15, with a really good number to start the tournament off.  For the beginning of the week (and middle of the afternoon), over 100 players is going to put this tournament on pace to reach the guarantee tomorrow afternoon ($150,000 guarantee on this event).

Players should not forget the chip leader from each flight of this event will receive a $1,500 bonus, with a keen eye on that race at the end of the night.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Break Time/Chip Counts

Players are about to go on their first (15) minute break of the day, and when they return to Level 5 the blinds will have increased to 100/200/25.  Registration will be open for another hour after the break, with another opportunity to play in tonight's Day 1B flight at 7:15pm.  Here are some early counts from the field as players head off for break:

Demetrios Kappattos - 64,000
Spencer Mensh - 48,000
Michael Dorsch - 45,000
Cligg Goldkind - 39,000
James Sloat - 23,000
Taylor Honkofsky - 18,000
Justin Liberto - 15,000
Joshua Gordon - 13,000
Tiffany Williamson - 10,000

Event 15 (Day 1A): Off To A Quick Start

Level 4 (Blinds 100/200)
Total Day 1A Entries: 85

"Welcome to the table," Alan Lee said to Michael Dorsch, as Michael raked in a pot worth close to 35,000.  Dorsch had just busted Salah Sood and William Beer as the chips all got in on the turn:

Board: 7♣ J K Q♠

Dorsch: K Q♣ (top two)    Sood: K♠ 10♣ (pair/straight draw)   Beer: Q7 (two pair/flush draw)

River: 8♣

Dorsch would need to fade a handful of outs on the river, but that's just what he did to triple his starting stack.  Michael now sits with just over 42,000 in front of him, as William Beer headed to the tournament podium to use his option to re-enter.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Bookending The Series

Level 3 (Blinds 75/150)
Total Day 1A Entries: 82

Joshua Gordon (Silver Spring, MD)
Joshua Gordon (Silver Spring, MD) has two recorded lifetime cashes to his name, one of which occurred just over a week ago.  Gordon was the Event 1 winner ($300 No Limit Hold'em), taking home the trophy and $31,732 as his part of a three-way chop.  Gordon's Day 2 saw a mix of great play and extra run good, as he held over 65% of the chips in play when players were three-handed.

Gordon has not played in an event since, but just took his seat at Table 41.  Primarily a high stakes cash game player, Joshua looks to continue building a solid tournament resume.

Event 15 (Day 1A): Structure Reminder

Level 2 (Blinds 50/100)
Day 1A Entries: 76

Tournament supervisor Karim Baruque just made an announcement for the players currently seated that should also be recognized by anyone planning on playing in one of the five flights.  Each flight will be played down to the conclusion of Level 12 (not Level 14 as printed in structure sheet) or 12% of the field.

There have been some notables that weren't spotted to start the day, or have entered since the post had been published:

Philip Rinaldi
Michael Sassin
Wayne Griffin
Ali Navid
Valerie Wrightston
David Van Noy

Event 15 (Day 1A): Franklin Tries To Forget

Level 2 (Blinds 50/100)
Total Day 1A Entries: 69

Andrew Franklin
Andrew Franklin was only a few spots away from making the money in Event 14 ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em) last night, but watched as the cruel side of this game reared its' head.  Franklin had Brian Woods all-in and at risk for a pot worth 160,000, over (80) big blinds at the time.

Franklin held KQ on a board of Q x x K against the AK of Woods, but watched in disappointment as an ace hit the river.  Andrew would be left with just (4) blinds after the hand and would be eliminated short of the money.

Franklin spoke about the hand moments ago, clearly still fresh on his mind.  The great part about this game is the fact that he now gets a chance to put that behind him and start new.  Andrew is seated at Table 32 to start the day, and currently hovers right around the starting stack.
