Event 14 (Day 1B): Final Hands For The Night

Level 11 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 91
Day 1B Players Remaining: 29

The clock has been paused and the players who are still active in the field will be playing five more hands.  The bagging process will then begin, and those left will look towards tomorrow.  Players will be returning at 12:15pm to Level 12 and blinds of 600/1,200/200.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Century Club

Level 11 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 91
Day 1B Players Remaining: 31

There is only (10) minutes remaining before the tournament supervisor pauses the clock, and announces how many hands remain in the night.  At the moment there are only four players in the field over 100,000:

James Peters - 214,000
Eric Barber - 138,000
Jesse Chinni - 122,000
Matthew Eguren - 100,000

Once the chips are bagged for the night and verified by the floor, a end of day chip count will be posted, as well as the table draw for tomorrow's Day 2 (Sunday 12:15pm).

Event 14 (Day 1B): Chinni Loses A Chunk

Level 11 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 91
Day 1B Players Remaining: 33

Scott Blumenfeld (Bethesda, MD)
At Table 31, Scott Blumenfeld would open the action from the cutoff with a raise to 2,500.  The play would fold to Jesse Chinni in the big blind, who would make the call as the two players went to the flop.  The dealer would fan out a flop of J K♠ Q, and Chinni would check to Blumenfeld, who bet out 2,600.  Jesse would make the call and the two would see the 9 on the turn.  Action would go check-check, and Chinni would fire out a bet of 5,000 after the 10 came out on the river.

Blumenfeld would take a neatly stacked tower of chips and push it across his cards.  Jesse did not ask for a count, but thought for a few moments before dropping some 5k chips in for a call.  Scott would turn over K Q for a rivered straight flush, and Jesse would toss his hand towards the middle.

Scott Blumenfeld - 69,000
Jesse Chinni - 82,000

Event 14 (Day 1B): Peters Leads The Way

Level 10 (Blinds 400/800/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 91
Day 1B Players Remaining: 35

James Peters (Potomac, MD) was spotted celebrating with a smile as he scooped up a sizable pot...one that would put him at 175,000.  That would be good for the chip lead with just over one level to go (with today's shortened structure).  Peters has only one recorded lifetime cash according to Hendon Mob, which actually came earlier in this series.  James finished 3rd in Event 6 ($230 NLH), which was good for $1,751.

Level 11 is beginning in just moments, with the blinds going up to 500/1,000/100 (chip average of 55,000).

Level 8 (Blinds 250/500/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 91
Day 1B Players Remaining: 48

Jesse Chinni (Ellicott City, MD)
One of the first players to eclipse the 100,000 mark during Day 1B play was Jesse Chinni (Ellicott City, MD), and he's currently the chip leader of those remaining.  Chinni is no stranger to tournament success, with over $716,000 in tournament earnings.

His last recorded tournament cash is almost a year old, finishing 58th in the Seminole Hard Rock $5,300 NLH ($10,000,000 Guarantee).  Chinni would collect $29,088 for his efforts, propelling him to top fifteen in all-time Maryland player earnings.

Jesse is currently sitting with a stack just over 110,000.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Level Up/Losing Players

Level 8 (Blinds 250/500/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 91
Day 1B Players Remaining: 53

Level 8 started just moments ago, with the blinds going up to 250/500/50.  The chip average amongst the remaining 53 players sits at 34,000.  The field continues to get smaller as another table breaks, with notables Cullen Hoffman and Jimmy Born eliminated.  Born would get it in pre with K Q against the A J of Raviinder Vinayak, but after flopping a queen would lose to an ace on the river.  Vinayak would chip up to 57,000 with that pot and is almost double the current chip average.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Deja Vu

Level 7 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 91
Day 1B Players Remaining: 60

With one of the outer tables breaking during break, Christian Harder ended up back at his original starting table for the day (Table 28).  He once again would be involved in a heads up hand with Karen Wagner, and the two would see a flop almost identical to the one that Harder busted his first bullet.  The dealer would fan out a flop of 10♠ 9 2♠, and Karen would even mention to Christian, "Does this remind you of anything?"  Wagner would check-call Harder's flop bet of 2,800, and the two would see the Q♠ on the turn.  This time Karen would take the lead with a bet of 4,200 and Christian would make the call.  The river would bring another spade, as the dealer placed down the 4♠, and Wagner would put out a bet of 6,200.  Harder would make the call and Karen would announce that she had no spade before turning over her hand, and Christian would table K J♠.  The spade flush would be enough to win the hand, and Harder would scoop in the pot.

Christian Harder - 60,000
Karen Wagner - 26,000

Event 14 (Day 1B): Final Numbers

Level 7 (Blinds 200/400/50)

Event 14 (Day 1B): Break Time

Players are heading on their second (15) minute break of the day, and when they return to Level 7 the blinds will have increased to 200/400/50.  Once the final seconds of the break tick off the clock, registration will then be closed.  The updates on Twitter have been very light during this event, so just a reminder that any players should make sure to Tweet @livepokerroom or #livepoker.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Updated Chip Counts

Level 6 (Blinds 150/300/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 86

Any players interested in joining this field have just under (40) minutes to get in, as Level 6 is almost halfway through.  Here are some updated chip counts from the field:

James Sloat - 83,000
Rafael Saadah - 64,000
Jesse Chinni - 58,000
David Frutchey - 57,000
Brian Hak - 52,000
Karen Wagner - 48,000
Frank Bonacci - 41,000
Scott Heiser - 36,000
James St. Hilaire - 19,000

Event 14 (Day 1B): Hard Luck For Christian

Level 5 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 84

The action at Table 41 was picked up pre-flop, as Scott Heiser limped the cutoff.  The action would fold to Michael Rossi in the small blind, who would make it 1,800 to go.  Christian Harder was in the big blind, and he would three-bet to 4,000.  After Heiser folded behind, Rossi would five-bet all-in (having Harder covered), and Christian would make the call:

Harder: A K         Rossi: J J♣

Runout: 3♠ 10♠ 79 J♠

The runout would not bring any help for Harder, who would bust his second bullet and immediately head to the tournament podium to get back in.  With that pot Rossi is now up to 34,000, sitting around the average at the moment.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Sloat Picks Right Up

Level 5 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 81

It was mentioned in an earlier post how James Sloat (Fort Meade, MD) had been running (and playing) very well during this series, and he is picking up right where he left off.  Although the action from the hand was not seen, James just busted Cliff Goldkind, chipping up to 78,000 and putting himself towards the top of the leaderboard.  This is no surprise to Sloat, as he called his shot on Twitter yesterday evening, but has since deleted the Tweet.

The list of notables continues to grow as Cullen Hoffman (Forest Hill, MD) was spotted for the first time since playing in Event 1 earlier in the series.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Registration Window Closing

Level 5 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 80

The blinds have just transitioned in Level 5 and players are now posting 100/200/25.  Registration for the event will close after Level 6 (and the break that follows).  Once registration does finish for the day, the pertinent numbers for the event will be posted (including total entries, chip average, and payouts for the event).

Event 14 (Day 1B): Later Arrivals

Level 4 (Blinds 100/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 78

Wesley Wyvill (Alexandria, VA)
New faces continue to join the field, including Wesley Wyvill (Alexandria, VA), who was one of the three players to chop Event 1 of this series.  The $300 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry) event drew 560 total entries and a prize fund of $146,328.  Wyvill took third place money in the chop, which earned him $19,942 and a seat into the Live! Summer Series Of Poker $2,200 Main Event.  Joshua Gordon was the player who took home the trophy and first place money, and although he was seen earlier in the tournament area, it's has not been verified whether he will be playing in today's field.

Another late arrival was Phong "VIP" Nguyen (Bristow, VA), who took his seat at Table 30 just minutes after players returned from break.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Saadah Flops Huge

Level 4 (Blinds 100/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 74

The action was picked up at Table 40 on the flop in a hand between Rafael Saadah and Ian Davis.  Approaching the table Saadah would have a bet in front of him enough to put Davis all-in on a flop of 3♣ 4 6, and Davis would make the call.  Rafael would table his 5 7 (flopped straight with straight flush redraw), and Ian would need help with his 4 4♠.  The turn and river would not pair the board for Davis and he would bust, while Saadah would scoop up the 40,000 pot and chip up to 77,000.  Ian would immediately go to the tournament podium and is not back in the field at a new table.

Event 14 (Day 1B): First Break/Updated Chip Counts

Players are going on their first (15) minute break of the day, and when they return to Level 4 the blinds will have increased to 100/200.  Here are some updated chip counts as players head out for the break:

Ajan Panda - 54,000
David Frutchey - 53,000
Karen Wagner - 46,000
Brian Hak - 35,000
James Sloat - 34,000
Christian Harder - 29,000
Robert McLaughlin - 28,000
Cliff Goldkind - 24,000

Event 14 (Day 1B): Emani Sticking Around

Level 3 (Blinds 75/150)
Total Day 1B Entries: 70

The action at Table 40 was picked up pre-flop when a supervisor was called to the table.  Vineet Bhargava opened the pot to 300, and was called by Venkata Emani in middle position.  John Creed would three-bet to 1,100 with the action on him, and Bhargava called behind.  Emani would then throw out two 1,000 chips, which was construed as a raise by Creed.  Although Venkata's intention was to make the call, the tournament floor determined that to be a min-raise, and Creed would five-bet shove in turn.  Vineet would fold and Venkata (who had 2,100 behind) would make the call:

Creed: 10♠ 10♣       Emani: A♣ 2♣

Runout: 10 4♠ 5♣ 3♠ 8♣

Emani would stand up when the hands were tabled, but he would turn the wheel and only have to fade the board pairing on the river to win the hand.  He would do just that, and Venkata chips back up  to 12,000 with that pot.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Repping MD

Level 3 (Blinds 75/150)
Total Day 1B Entries: 67

Christian Harder (Annapolis, MD)
The newest arrival to the field is likely no stranger to anyone in the poker room, as Christian Harder (Annapolis, MD) took his seat at Table 28 just moments ago.  Harder is one of a group of big named poker pros to call Maryland home.  Christian has over $2,900,000 in career tournament earnings, including his most recent score during the Aria/Party Poker WPT500 ($565 No Limit Hold'em).  Harder bested a field of 3,599 players to finish in fourth place for $90,000.  He also added five more WSOP cashes during this years series, all in no limit hold'em events.

It didn't take long for Harder to get involved at his table, as he got it all-in on a flop of 10♠ 9 4♣ against Karen Wagner (who had him covered).  It would be a quick trip back to the registration podium, as Christian's 10 9♣ < 10♣ 10of Wagner.

Level 2 (Blinds 50/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 59

An eighth table has just been opened in the outer tournament area, as the flow of players entering the field continues to be steady.  There is at least one WSOP bracelet winner in the field at the moment, as Cliff Goldkind takes his seat at Table 32. Goldkind won Event 19 during the 2012 WSOP ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em) for $559,514, and has since seen some nice success here at Maryland Live!.  Cliff was one of eight players to chop the Live! Event 14 (Day 1B): Cards In The Air

Level 1 (Blinds 25/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 42

The rules announcement has been made for players already seated, and the cards are now in the air for Day 1B of Event 14.  The field has already surpassed that of yesterday, and with the trend of later arrivals always present, the number should continue to grow.  A lot of players have asked about yesterday's early finish and how that relates to today's play.  In order to make sure that both starting flights have an even playing field (in lines of structure), today's play will end at the conclusion of Level 11.

As the field continues to grow and new players get settled in their seats, an update of the notables in the field will be posted shortly.

Event 14 (Day 1B): Second Flight Begins Shortly

Today is the final opportunity for players to bag chips and continue on to Day 2 of Event 14 ($1,100 No Limit Hold'em - $75,000 Guarantee).  The field yesterday was an intimate one, with play being paused with (10) players left (from 35 total entries).  Drake Bronk, recent winner of the MSPT Mid-Season Championship bagged the chip lead with 222,200, while James Bucci sealed up 168,500.

The field looks to be sizably bigger today, with the buzz that has been seen on Twitter.  Many of the notable Maryland players are now back from the WSOP, and it will be interesting to see who shows up for Day 1B action.  The cards will be in the air at 12:15pm, and live coverage of the event will pick up at exactly that time.
